Emily Backus is a writer, journalist, and coach. She has been a regular contributor to The Financial Times, the Italian national newswire ANSA and continues to write for Women’s Wear Daily, the journal of record for the fashion sector in the U.S.A. She has been a Pew Fellow in International Journalism and an investigative news producer on U.S. television teams that earned roughly a dozen honors, including two New York Emmy awards.

As the Chief Writing Coach of Omni Admissions, Emily has worked with students who gained entry to highly selective university programs, from Ivy League colleges to top ranking institutions in the United Kingdom and Europe. Emily coaches students to write and interview well.

Over the course of her work, Emily has become a polished editor. She combs for narrative and creative opportunities that lie in omitting, selecting, or flipping words. Beyond dotting i’s and crossing t’s, Emily is on the prowl to help writers engage their readers.

She earned a BA in English literature from Columbia University in New York, and is currently studying for a MLitt in Creative Writing at the University of Glasgow.
